Kazakhstan Proposes Establishing a SCO Water Resources Research Center

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed the establishment of a Water Resources Research Center during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, reports the Kazakhstan Water Association.

“Climate change knows no borders and poses a threat to many countries and regions of the world. Specific risks include desertification, drought, depletion of water bodies, glacier melting, and other environmental challenges. Therefore, it is necessary to jointly develop a strategy to address these threats. In this regard, we support the establishment of a SCO Water Resources Research Center in Kazakhstan,” stated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The new center will promote efficient water resource management, environmental protection, and stronger regional cooperation.
